I recently came across something that may be revolutionary in terms of reducing wrinkles and the overall effects of aging for our skin. Not only that but this also claims to help your mood, pain, and overall well-being. NASA has discovered LED ( light emitting diodes) for use in dermatology and other health issues. The best part is, there are products out there that we can use in the comfort of our own home. Light therapy for acne, scars, mood enhancement, pain and more. Here I will be going over each of these.
What Is Light Therapy?
LED light therapy discovered by NASA, is a relaxing, pain free skin therapy that is shown to help a multitude of issues.LED works by emitting an array of light diodes deep into the skin, stimulating collagen. This helps combat acne as well as wrinkles, freckles, sunspots, and overall texture of the skin. Depending on the color of the LED, such as red light therapy, blue light therapy, each one combats different skin issues.
The red light therapy gives us the good part of the sun without getting burned, and this is non-invasive and painless. You will feel a slight warmth with the red light therapy and it is safe for your eyes. Blue light therapy is great for depression and mood enhancement as well as acne. Amber light therapy is great for spider veins and blue colored skin afflictions. These therapies can be done in a medical office, spa, and now at home. To me that is important because you will need a few sessions at first and then maintenance sessions after. Let’s go over each of them.
Red Light Therapy
LED red light therapy, is painless, relaxing and clears up many problems. If you have ever gone tanning in a salon, now some of them have red light beds, used for healing and relaxation. These beds don’t burn you or tan you, but they reduce wrinkles, cellulite, stretch marks, and more. The light penetrates to the deep layers of the skin to promote collagen production. It emits a warming glow and can be used for pain on targeted areas.
Some spas and salons have the beds you lay down in, or stand up versions. You can buy masks online and bulbs to put in a desk lamp. My advice would be to try it in a salon or medical setting, then buy one for home. This is an amazing non-surgical treatment, and when used along with supplements, face creams, and serums, you could really start to notice the difference.
Blue Light Therapy
LED blue light therapy can be done at home or in a medical setting. This is the best type for clearing up acne. This is also painless, and when used along with a photosynthesizing cream on the skin before the treatment it steps it up a notch. The light that is emitted, is a natural blue light that treats sun damage and is sometimes used as a skin cancer preventative, or treatment of malignant regions.
When used for acne, the light shrinks oil glands and kills certain acne causing bacteria. This light source goes deeper than just the layers of the skin, and is also used as a treatment for depression. If being done in a spa or medical setting, the timing will be different for each ailment. If your using the photosynthesizing skin cream, it needs to be fully absorbed into the skin. You will be in a very dark room, with just the LED over the targeted areas.
You will need to wear goggles to protect your eyes. Then just lay down and relax. The length of time per treatment and how many maintenance sessions you need will be different for each area you are working on. There are light devices you can buy to use at home, which I think is the better, cheaper option. In terms of mood enhancement, the blue light emitted from the sun is strongest during the afternoons, and in the winter daylight is shorter which may lead to seasonal depression. Blue light has been shown to combat anxiety and causes relaxation.
Light Therapy At Home
In my research I have found a few different options so you can perform home light therapy for skin in the comfort of your own home. They have everything from blue light, red light, amber light masks that you just place on the face for a time then it shuts off. The best one I found was from a company called NEWKEY, it has blue light, red light and amber light masks to treat a variety of issues in your own home. These types of masks have an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me. ( link leads to Amazon so you can check it out).
There are also hand held devices you can use at home, so you can use them anywhere on your body where you want to see results. These run from the lower end of $40.00 to almost $500.00 depending on the size of the device. I found the NEWKEY one I mentioned above to be the best choice, seeing as how it comes with a fitted mask and the different colored LED lights which you can use for an assortment of issues.
Here I found a hand held heating red lamp for targeted areas. They have one that has a 5 head infrared lamp to reach multiple areas. If you wanted to go to a spa or salon to try out light therapy, there are many places you can go. Here is a directory.
Conclusion
LED home light therapy for skin and mood disorders are quickly becoming a popular trend. The best part about this, to me at least, is that you can do this anytime you want in the comfort of your own home. The hand held devices can essentially go with you anywhere. The price is about the same as 2 or 3 trips to a salon or medical office, and that saves us money in the long run. I had no idea that this even existed, and when I found out, I had to share it with everyone. Not only for ladies either, you men out there could benefit from this too! I am excited to hear your thoughts. Have you tried LED therapy? Did it work for you? Please share all thoughts and questions below. Thanks for reading!
