Ancient Mediterranean Beauty Secrets – Anti Aging

MediterraneanI’ve always wanted to visit Greece and other areas of the Mediterranean. The beautiful weather and clear ocean waters and the food is amazing. The people there have such gorgeous skin and seem to age well. What is their secret? I have done some research and found that you don’t have to live in the Mediterranean to have gorgeous skin and hair. Here are some ancient Mediterranean beauty secrets for anti aging.

Sea Salt

Sea salt is great to use as a scrub to exfoliate and detoxify any part of your body. To make a sea salt scrub, take equal parts sea salt or Epsom salts mix with olive oil or coconut oil and rub into any rough areas of skin you have and a bonus is adding “> Epsom salts to your bath to soak, detoxify, and relax your whole body.

Greek Yogurt Peel

Greek yogurt is an amazing natural , AHA peel to dissolve dead skin and tighten pores. The lactic acid is natural and is a great alternative to stronger peels. Take 4 tablespoons of Greek yogurt mixed with 1 tablespoon of coconut or olive oil then apply to your skin. Leave this on for about 10 minutes then rinse with warm water. You can do this once or twice per week.

Honey Mask

“>Honey has amazing antibacterial properties. Adding in extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil is super moisturizing. To make a mask take 1/4 cup of organic honey and put into small jar adding in a bit of boiling water to make the honey more spreadable. Add in 1/4 cup of coconut or olive oil and mix. Spread on your face with a clean brush then leave on for about 10 minutes. Wipe it off with a warm wet washcloth then pat dry. You can use this 3 or 4 times per week.

  • Legumes– Legumes are low in fat and calories and high in fiber. Examples are chick peas, lentils, beans, and dried peas.
  • Olive oil – Cooking with extra virgin olive oil is a staple in a Mediterranean diet. Olive oil is rich in heart healthy polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. You can also use it as a base for salad dressing and sauces. Be mindful not to eat too much of it to avoid weight gain considering it is a fat.
  • Eating less sugar – Sweets are a once in a while treat usually eaten during special occasions. Having a bit in your coffee is fine but don’t overdo it.
  • Lean meats – The Mediterranean diet consists of lean cuts of meat usually eaten as a side to the vegetables. Examples would be fish, lamb, skinless white meats like chicken. The meats are usually baked, grilled, or broiled.


The people of the Mediterranean region seem to be radiant and glowing.
